A FVZ low impedance SMD electrolytic capacitor produced by BEC is a surface-mount version of the traditional through-hole electrolytic capacitor. It's engineered for reflow soldering to printed circuit boards in modern surface-mount technology assembly. It retains the core electrochemical energy-storage structure of electrolytic capacitors (anode, cathode, electrolytic medium, dielectric oxide layer) but features a compact, flat package with metalized terminations for direct PCB mounting-eliminating the radial or axial leads of through-hole variants. This series of capacitors have exceptionally low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) and Low Equivalent Series Inductance (ESL), making it ideal for high-frequency, high-ripple current applications in modern power electronics.

Characteristics
Exceptionally Low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR)
Typical Range: 5-50 mΩ (vs. 50-500 mΩ for standard)
Measurement: Specified at 100 kHz and 20°C
Temperature Dependence: ESR increases at low temperatures, but less dramatically than standard types
Frequency Dependence: ESR remains low up to self-resonant frequency
Reduced Equivalent Series Inductance (ESL)
Typical ESL: 1-5 nH (vs. 5-20 nH for standard)
Achieved through: Internal multi-tab construction, optimized lead frame
Self-resonant frequency: Typically 200 KHz - 2 MHz
Low impedance SMD electrolytics retain the industry-standard cylindrical SMD package (D×H, diameter × height) of standard SMD electrolytics for universal PCB compatibility, with minor mechanical optimizations to support low ESR/ESL and high ripple current. The cylindrical form factor is the de facto standard (rectangular chip low impedance variants are niche).

FAQ
Q1: What exactly makes FVZ series "low-impedance"?
A1: Low-impedance refers to having very low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR)-typically 5-50 milliohms compared to 50-500 milliohms for standard types. This is achieved through the following ways:
Conductive polymer electrolyte (instead of traditional liquid)
Deeply etched anode foil for more surface area
Multi-tab internal construction to reduce current path resistance
Optimized materials throughout
Q2: What's the difference between "low-ESR" and "low-impedance"?
A2: These terms are often used interchangeably, but technically:
ESR is just the resistive component at a specific frequency (usually 100kHz)
Impedance (Z) includes ESR + capacitive reactance + inductive reactance
Low-impedance caps are optimized for low impedance across a frequency range
Marketing often uses "low-impedance" for the very best performance capacitors.
Q3: What about temperature stability?
A3: Much better than standard electrolytics:
ESR changes less with temperature
Wider operating range: -55°C to +105°C or +125°C
Better low-temp performance: Still functional at -40°C
Polymer types have best temperature stability
